I just finished watching to White House reply to the Hilary Rosen comments made about Ann Romney. Me thinks that Hilary Rosen is being used. The White House called a press conference NOT to disavow the derogatory comments made by Ms. Hilary Rosen, but to enumerate the suppossed "good things" this president has done for women. Ahem! (Excuse me while I choke a bit!), it is becoming quite clear today that this president is "USING WOMEN" to achieve re-election. Has he no shame? He claims to be for women, pro- women, but he's just another guy using women. This so-called "WAR ON WOMEN" is a fabrication of a desperate campaign. somehow he got Hilary Rosen to make these inflammatory statements so he could call a press conference, not to condemn her statements but to use the situation for his purposes.
Hilary Rosen, can we talk? I am a stay at home mom. A mother of 6. I chose to raise my children rather than enter into the workforce. And that choice was not a luxury. My husband at the time made $4.00 an hour. Yes, you read that right, $4.00 an hour. We were not rich, in fact we were on food stamps for 3 1/2 years, and my oldest son's claim to fame was that he was raised on Government cheese! We decided that raising our children ourselves was much more important than two new cars, or a big house or European vacations! We sacrificed, as parents, to give our children a loving home, a place of peace, love and joy! AND God blessed us! We have 6 fine, upstanding, healthy, well adjusted, faithful, happy, loving children who are good citizens of this country, worship their God and love their parents and each other. Hilary, I worked very, very hard to raise my children and still do today. I can't even count how many diapers I changed, laundry loads I washed, vomit I cleaned up, dishes washed, floors mopped, meals cooked, car pools driven, tears I've wiped, hugs I've given, boo boos I've kissed, meeting I've attended, papers I've signed, parties I've helped with, cookies I've baked...but I did it all with a happy heart for the children that I love and I would do it all over again forsaking all the material things for the love of my children. Then again, God blessed us because He gave us opportunities to have a big house to raise our children in, 2 new cars so we could drive them around and even European vacations to take some of them on, all on one salary earned by my husband, while I stayed home and raised our children. We walked the narrow path and God blessed us. It's not an easy path, but its the best one, to get where we are all trying to go.
I intended to write a whole blog on this subject but then I realized that its already been written. I suppose I could say a whole lot about Sandra Fluke and the slippery slope she and the rest of us are sliding down. But why do so if I can't say it any better than the work that's already been published. And so, without further ado...

I suppose it would be a very difficult thing for a young person today to give up texting for lent. It wasn't something I would have even thought of suggesting to my 6 children whose main form of communication is texting. I myself knew that if i wanted to have an open line of communication with my kiddos I would have to concede and learn to text. And so I did. I've been texting now for about 2 years and it is definitely a learned behavior. Often when what I really want to do is pick up the phone and call one of my children, I end up texting instead. Only because when I am free and able to talk they usually aren't. Three are in college, one works full time and the other two are in high school and middle school. So, texting has become a matter of convenience, so to speak, no pun intended! This lent, I decided to use texting to my advantage. Little did my children know what they had done when they encouraged and taught me how to text. Since 3 of my children live on campus away from home and texting with them has become almost a daily ritual, I realized that this lenten season I could take that daily ritual and make good use of it, just as Blessed Pope John Paul II encouraged during his papacy, "...to use technology for good." And so I had this brilliantly scathing idea to text my children daily for the 40 days of lent. A simple reflection, a saintly quote, a scripture verse, something short and sweet during their busy day to cause them to reflect on the spiritual, to remember God in their day, to consider the Eternal! I've enjoyed the opportunity to do this for my children so far. It has caused me to think also, of those things I should be pondering this lenten season, and so in the end, what I thought I was doing to help my children on their spiritual journey has been a growth experience for my own. In the words of someone famous," It's a good thing!"
I watched a news clip this morning of Nancy Pelosi, arguably the most ant- Catholic, ant-woman today....Ok, maybe she's tied for first place with Kathleen Sebelius, aka the secretary of Health and Human Services. At an event held at Texas A & M University this week, Ms. Pelosi said that 98% of Catholic women from the age of 14 to 50 use contraceptives. WHAT???? First off this is a skewed statistic and Ms. Pelosi should know this, since she is an elected representative of this country, she should make it her job to "state the facts" AND state them accurately, so as not to mislead the people. The poll from which this statistic was taken asked the question, " How often do you go to mass/ attend religious services?" and the answer was ," about once a month."....Ms. Pelosi knows, as a Catholic herself that this is NOT a practicing Catholic. One of the precepts of the Church is to participate in mass each and every Sunday and every Holy Day of Obligation. Even a 5th grader knows that once a month doesn't quite fit the criteria. Nancy Pelosi, You Should be Ashamed!
Secondly, when Ms. Pelosi stated that catholic women from the age of 14 to.....my head almost exploded. I could hardly listen to the rest of what she had to say. The age of 14... the age when girls are barely entering high school....and their main concerns for the weekend are getting to the mall and not sprouting a pimple before Monday? Back in my day we hoped to land a babysitting job and make some extra money to go to the mall. Baby sit other peoples children that is- like the young MARRIED couple down the street! At 14,what girls are thinking about and using contraception? The big questions here are, "Where in the world are these girls parents and what are they teaching them? If Nancy Pelosi is advocating that 14 year old girls should be sexually active and that tax payers should foot their contraceptive bills, then Nancy Pelosi, You Should Be Ashamed of yourself! And that goes for you too Kathleen Sebelius!
